Materials

Pencils (semi-sharpened to a dull tip)

Paper

Tape

Large needlepoint screens (available in craft stores use wide-point squares)

Instructions

1. Help the children cut out a large heart, approximately 8" x 8" (20 cm x 20
cm), from red construction paper.
2. Using other colors of construction paper, help them cut out small heart
shapes, about 2" x 2" (5 cm x 5 cm).
3. Give each child a small heart shape and markers.
4. Explain to them that the hearts will be a farewell gift for a child who is leaving
the class.
5. After the child draws a design on his heart, ask him what he wants to tell the
child who is leaving. Write his message on the heart with a pencil.
6. Glue all the small hearts onto the big heart.
7. Cut a small hole in the top of the heart and attach a string or pipe cleaner to
hang it.
8. Give the heart to the child who is leaving as a farewell gift from his classmates.
