Hot glue gun (adult only) or glue sticks

Styrofoam plates

Instructions

1. Cut out flat, rectangular shapes from brown paper grocery bags.2. Give each child a shape. Encourage the children to crumple and twist theshapes over and over again. Then flatten the paper out again.3. Pour paint in a variety of fall colors into shallow dishes.4. Encourage the children to use cotton swabs to paint designs on their placemats.5. When the placemats are dry, laminate them or cover them with clear contactpaper for durability, if desired.More to doInstead of making placemats, tear the grocery bags into animal shapes and make"hides." Encourage the children to write or draw pictures on them with blackmarkers to look like cave drawings.
