Instructions

What to do
1. Have the children tear
newspaper into strips.
Each pompom requires
about 20 strips.
2. Staple the strips together
on one end. Ask the children
to hold the strips by
that end while you attach
a wooden stirrer with
masking tape. Wrap the
pompom and handle
securely.
3. Have the children decorate
the pompoms with
markers.
More to do
More art: Paste magazine
and newspaper pictures to
poster board shapes and
construct a mobile; attach
photos of the children
jumping rope, tumbling on
a mat, or dribbling a ball.
Use paper fasteners to
make movable sports characters
from poster board.
Movement: Teach the children a pompom or jump rope routine to the tune of lively music.
Science: Measure heart rates before and after dancing or jumping rope.
