Playdough Pumpkin Pies

Materials

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

1 cup water

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

saucepan

stove

heavy large spoon

orange food coloring

pumpkin pie spice

small pie plates

rolling pins

Instructions

1. Invite the children to draw a picture on construction paper using an old
white candle. Remind them to press firmly.
2. Tell them a detective's job is to look for clues to solve mysteries or problems.
Ask them if they can see the picture they have drawn on their paper.
3. Encourage the children to paint over their candle picture with watercolor
paint.
4. As their pictures emerge, praise the children's detective skills. The mystery of
the disappearing picture is solved!
