What to do
1. Give each child a baggie and a few popcorn kernels.
2. Invite the children to place several spoonfuls of soil in their baggies, and then to press a couple
of popcorn kernels into the soil. They should add a tiny bit of water and seal the baggie.
3. Tape the baggies to a sunny window. Soon the root system will sprout, making a pretty and
interesting design against the light.
4. Encourage the children to check their baggies frequently.
More to do
More art: Invite the children to draw what is happening in the baggie.
Science: With your help, children can record the changes in the kernel on a sheet of paper.
