Instructions

1. For a new and different sensory experience, fill your water play tub with rich, black soil. Let the children explore the soil with their hands first; later you can add small trowels and rakes.

2. Later in the week, let the children add small amounts of water to half the tub. Talk about the differences between the feel and look of the wet and dry soil.

3. For a grand finale, let the children add grass seed to the tub and place it in front of a window. Encourage the children to water their grass daily and watch closely!More to doMath: Keep a growth chart of the grass growing in the water tub. Measure the growth each day and mark the chart.More science: Let each child fill a plastic cup with soil and plant grass seed. Use round stickers to let each child create a face for his cup. As the seeds grow, the children can give their new "friend" a haircut.
