Materials

Styrofoam cups, one per child Markers

Soil Spoons

Corn seeds Watering bucket or cup and water

Paper Markers, crayons, pencils

Instructions

1. Set up a garden area near a windowsill.

2. The children write their names on Styrofoam cups.

3. Each child puts about five teaspoons (25 ml) of soil into his or her cup.

4. Show the children how to make a hole in the middle of the soil and drop in three corn seeds.

5. Help them water their seeds every few days.

6. Encourage each child to make a journal so that they can record the daily progress of theircorn plants. They can decorate the cover and pages of the journals any way they wish.More to doLanguage: Write or tell a story about the plants titled: "How My Seed Became a Plant."
