Instructions
1. When the sun is shining brightly, take the children outside on a "shadow
hunt." Encourage them to look for shadows of each other and large objects,
such as trees and buildings.
2. On a cloudy day, go outside again and look for shadows. Discuss the sun as
the missing factor in shadow formation and how the clouds prevent them
from occurring.
3. Give each child a flashlight. In a darkened area, show the children how to
make shadows of objects in the room using a flashlight. Then let them
experiment using flashlights to make shadows.
More to do
Art: Use a lamp or overhead projector in a darkened room to make head
silhouettes of each child. Cut them out and mount on paper. Display them in the
room or give them to parents as gifts.
