Instructions

1. Take photographs of various sets of objects in your classroom (for example, four pinecones, six wooden blocks, 10 crayons, and one ball). You can invite parent helpers to gather the objects and take the photographs for this activity. If desired, let each child find one set of objects for this activity. This allows children to be a part of creating the game.

2. Place the objects in a tray or tub.

3. Place each photograph inside a re-sealable plastic bag to protect it from fingerprints.

4. Place all the photographs in the photo or recipe box.

5. Set the tray and the photograph box at a table or learning center.

6. Invite individual children or pairs of children to work at this counting activity.

7. The child chooses a photo from the photo box, and then finds the same number of objects from the tray and places them on the table.

8. Instruct the child to continue selecting photographs and counting out a matching set of objects until all the photos are removed from the box.More to do Working with Families: Store the materials for this activity in a backpack. Invite one child to take the backpack home each night and play the counting game with family members.
