Materials

  • Powdered paint in assorted colors
  • Containers with holes in the lids such as a grated cheese container
  • White construction paper
  • Spray bottles of water, optional

What to do

1. Ahead of time, pour powdered paint into shaker containers.

2. Invite the children to sprinkle powdered paint onto their paper. Encourage them to mix some of the colors together.

3. Place the papers outside in a light rain for a few minutes. If possible, let the children stand outside to watch the rain mix with the paint. Bring the papers inside before they become soaked.

4. If you choose, have the children spray their papers with water instead of putting them out in the rain.

More to do

Cooking: Make a gelatin dessert with water and powdered mix.

Art: Cut the paper in the shape of umbrellas and then paint with powdered paint and rain. Design gift wrap using paper, powdered paint, and a sprayer bottle.
