Instructions

1. Read Harold and the Purple Crayon to the children. Talk about the things
Harold was able to do with his purple crayon. Ask the children what they
would draw if they had a purple crayon.
2. Give each child a purple crayon and a piece of white construction paper.
Encourage them to draw something with the purple crayon.
3. Ask the children to dictate something about their drawings and write it on
their paper.
4. Put all of the sheets together to make a book. Add text as needed to make it
look like the original story.
5. Make up a title and create a cover for the book. Punch holes in the sides of
the drawings and bind them together using yarn or string.

Go on a purple walk around your school. Make a list of things you find that are
purple. Create a poster describing what the children saw on their walk.
Art: Create a purple collage using magazine or newspaper pictures.
More Art: Make purple playdough. Create some purple creatures or make some
beads and string a purple necklace.
Special Days: Have a purple day. Wear purple clothes, play with purple toys,
and eat a purple snack.
