Instructions

1. Tell the children that they are going to write a story called "If I Could Be the
Teacher."
2. Ask each child the question separately and use a tape recorder to record what
he says.
3. Write the child's story on a piece of white paper.
4. Give the child his story and ask him to illustrate it.
5. After the children have finished, laminate the pages or cover them with
contact paper.
6. Make a cover and on the front write, "If I Could Be the Teacher." Put all of
the pages inside the cover, punch holes along the side, and use yarn or brads
to attach it together.
7. Read the book to the class.
8. Put the tape into the Listening Center and the book in the Book Center. The
children will enjoy reading it all year.
More to do
Make a book for Mother's Day or Father's Day. Change the title to: "If I Was the
Mother" or "If I Was the Father."
Dramatic Play: Set up a "school" in the Dramatic Play Center and encourage the
children to pretend to be the teacher. The dolls and stuffed animals can be
children.
