Materials

  • Samples of Formica or other counter materials  or linoleum (often available free of charge at large hardware stores)
  • Metal rings

What to do

1. Slip several samples on the metal ring and clip it closed.

2. For the youngest children, make sure the samples have rounded, not sharp, edges. These are the perfect size for small hands to carry. They are indestructible and wash up easily and make a satisfying noise when shaken.

3. Use the sample booklets to play an "I Spy the Color" game. Children take turns choosing one of the samples as the color everyone will look for.
