colored markers
felt
rubber cement (adult only)
laminate
flannel board
tape player
blank cassette tape

Instructions:

1. Echoes of laughter will fill the room when children repeat not only the words
but also the movements to the song. Set up a music center featuring the fun
“echo” song, “My Aunt Came Back.” This is a “call and response” song; the
children repeat each line after the teacher says it. For example, say the first
line, “My aunt came back,” and the children repeat (like an echo) and say, “My
aunt came back,” and so on.
2. In advance, locate illustrations of a woman (the aunt) and a picture of each of
the items mentioned in the following song.
3. Color the illustrations and mount them on colored tagboard. Laminate them
for durability, and cut out. Prepare them for flannel board use by backing
them with felt using rubber cement.
4. Teach the children the words, tune, and movements to the song. Record the
children singing the song. Put the illustrations, the cassette recording, and
flannel board in the music center. You may also want to challenge the
children to continue each movement throughout the song, adding a
movement after each verse.
