Materials
One chair for each participating adult CD, record, or tape player fun music
Instructions
1. This is a great activity to do when parents are in the room for a party (Parents Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day).
2. Arrange the chairs in a large circle.
3. Ask one parent of each child to sit in a chair.
4. Instruct the children to stand in front of their own parent.
5. Start the music. Have the parents walk in one direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) while the children walk in the opposite direction. Both groups will walk inside the circle of chairs instead of behind them. If needed, have one teacher lead the group of children. They will instinctively want to follow their parents instead of walking in the other direction.
6. Remove one chair.
7. When you stop the music, the parents try to find a chair.
8. Encourage the children to find their parents and jump into their laps.
9. The parent/child pair that does not find a chair is "out." Give them a sticker or other small reward and let them join the audience.
10. Continue play until one parent/child pair wins the game.
11. Encourage cooperation as game play continues. Provide alternate activities for children who are done with the game.
