Instructions

* Ask the children to talk about their favorite animals. Choose any four animals
and put their pictures or draw their outlines on a chart. Make four columns
one for each animal. Attach the chart paper to the wall.
* Create a separate voting area away from the children; place the bottle of
poster paint next to the chart paper.
What to Do
1. Ask the children to vote for their favorite animal. Each child dips his finger in
the poster paint and places a dot under the animal he likes the most. Each
child can vote for only one animal.
2. After the children have finished voting, help them count the number of votes
received by each animal candidate and to determine which animal got the
most.
3. Help the children create a banner reading "Congratulations, [animal name]!"
and hang it in the classroom. Children can also walk through the classroom on
a victory parade for the winning animal contestant, shouting "Hip, hip
hooray!"
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* For a related family activity, children can vote for "most happy" or "funniest"
relative in their families.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children count the number of votes each animal received?
* Do the children understand the concept of voting?
