Instructions

1. Begin this activity by asking families to help create this center. Send home a
paper bag with a note attached. For example:
Dear families,
Please help us with this fall activity. Take a walk outside with your child and pick up
some nature items. You might find leaves, rocks, nuts, and pinecones. As you walk
with your child, talk about the weather, things you see, and things that change as
the season changes. Place the items in the paper bag. Send in the bag when you
have completed the walk.
2. As each child brings in her bag, let her share it at group time. Encourage the
children to talk about their walk and what they found. This is a nice
alternative to "Show and Tell."
3. After they show their items, ask them to place the items in the water table.
4. Encourage the children to explore the items using magnifying glasses. This is
a nice activity to layer experiences and involve families.
