Mouse Paint by Ellen Stohl Walsh

primary colors of paint

liquid soap detergent

washing tub

towels

Instructions

1. Talk about the three primary colors red, blue, and yellow.
2. Read the book Mouse Paint. Pretend to turn the children into the little mice
(from the book).
3. Ask the children to take off their shoes. Mix each primary color of paint with
some liquid detergent (for easier cleanup). Label a large washing pan (for
feet) "CAT." Tell the children that they will be stepping into the primary colors
and mixing them to make new colors.
4. Take the children outside. Ask them to sit while you pour paint puddles
about one foot apart on the sidewalk. Pour three puddles of each color.
5. Let the children walk through the paint, mixing it. When ready, let one child
at a time wash off his feet in the "cat bowl."
