Instructions

1. Talk with the children about shapes,
especially triangles, squares, and rectangles.
2. Supply all of the children with
marshmallows and pretzel sticks. Show
them how to connect these materials to one
another. Encourage the children to make
marshmallow triangles, rectangles, and
squares.
3. Ask the children if they can think of
ways to expand what they made while
keeping their basic shapes. Let them
experiment.
4. Help the children visualize three-dimensional
geometric relationships by showing how to
make a pyramid based on a square, or a cube based on a square. Let them try
to make the shapes themselves.
5. Encourage further logical and creative thinking by introducing more geometric
structures and helping the children to build them.
6. Let the children eat their marshmallow and pretzel stick creations.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children create triangles and squares with the given materials?
l Can the children visualize three-dimensional relationships? Can they create a
pyramid with the given materials?
