containers of various items, such as beads, sand, feathers, cotton balls, sequins

Instructions

1. Depending on your focus (numeral recognition or shape recognition), write
or draw different numerals or shapes on card stock.
2. Show the children a couple of the cards. Invite them to feel the cards, pointing
out how smooth the card stock feels when they rub their finger or hand over
the printed lines.
3. Give the children a number shape card, or let each child choose her own.
4. Show them how to put glue on the lines of the numeral or shape.
5. Invite the children to choose a material to put on the glue. Have them shake
off the excess material over a trashcan.
6. Let the number or shape cards dry overnight.
7. The next day, have the children share their cards with the rest of the children.
The children will enjoy feeling the different textures.
