Magical Rubbings

Material

  • cardboard or tagboard shamrock shape
  • tape
  • sturdy paper
  • peeled green crayons

 

What to do

1. This activity will engage the children's sense of touch.

2. In advance, purchase cardboard shamrocks. You might even find ones that are embossed with smaller shamrocks all over the surface.

3. Invite each child to make a shamrock rubbing.

4. Tape a cardboard shamrock to a tabletop; then tape a sheet of sturdy paper on top.

5. Have the children rub the side of a peeled green crayon over the entire sheet of paper.

6. Your toddlers will enjoy seeing the shamrock outline emerge on the paper. It's like magic!

Instructions

1. Bring all the materials outside.
2. Fill the containers with water. Hang a clothesline nearby.
3. Encourage the children to wash one article of clothing at a time in one
container, rinse in the other container, and then wring out and hang on
a rope with clothespins.
4. It is not necessary to use soap. Soap may be difficult for children to rinse
out, can be harmful to grass, and can make everything slippery!
