Water Plastic cups

Salt Dark paper

Cotton swabs

Instructions

1. Let each child make his own solution for painting by mixing 1 cup (250 ml) of water with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) salt. Talk about the changes as the children mix.

2. Ask where the salt went, then explain that it dissolved.

3. Let the children paint a design on dark paper using cotton swabs.

4. Set it in a sunny spot to dry. Check the paintings from time to time. Ask what is happening. Talk about evaporation. The children will find it fascinating when the salt designs magically appear.
