Instructions

1. Start by talking about the light of the sun. It is day when the sun shines, night when it does not.

2. Close the blinds or block the light of the sun. Talk about what you can't do without light.

3. Turn on lamps or lights. Talk about the differences with the lights on and off.

4. Make the room as dark as possible. Then using a very small flashlight, talk about how even a little light is enough to spoil the darkness.

5. Cut out shapes, such as hearts or circles. Lay these on colored construction paper on a table where there is always sunlight. Leave them there for a few days.

6. Ask the children to pick up the shapes and see how the construction paper has faded in the sunlight around the shapes.

7. Try the same thing with the lamps. See if there is any difference. Talk about the power of the sun compared to that of the lamps.
