Instructions
1. Tell the children that they are going to pretend it's their birthday and they
are going to celebrate by having a big party! Talk about the children's
experiences with birthdays.
2. Encourage the children to decorate the room with crepe paper streamers
and confetti. Cover the table with a party tablecloth and put a party plate,
napkin, and cup at each place setting. Put a pretend (or real!) birthday cake
with candles in the middle of the table.
3. Let each child wear a birthday crown. Sing "Happy Birthday" and blow out
the candles on the cake together.
4. Make a birthday vocabulary chart with the children. Include the words
"birthday," "party," "prize," "cake," "candle," and "presents."
5. Put out a basket of books about birthdays, invitations, envelopes, and
pictures of birthday parties.
6. Play games such as "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" and "Twister."
