Large pieces of construction paper or oak tag glue sticks magazines and catalogs

Instructions

1. Prepare large pieces of construction paper or oak tag by pasting a selected letter (upper- and lowercase) in the center of each (for example, Pp, Mm, Ff).

2. Cut out a number of pictures from magazines that begin with the appropriate initial sound on the pages (for example, milk, meat, monkey, pie, puppet, fish, fan, and so on). Put the pictures in the middle of the work table.

3. Place a prepared letter paper in front of each of three or four children seated around the table.

4. Each child finds a picture that starts with the letter on his paper and glues it to the page.

5. When everyone has found a picture and glued it on, rotate the papers so that each child is now looking for a new picture with a different letter. Continue the rotation until all the pictures have been glued.

6. The children who participated can now display their work to the class and identify the pictures chosen for each letter. The class can offer suggestions for other pictures that might belong on a given paper.
