Materials

Assorted small-and medium-size leaves

Scrap paper or newspaper

White paper

Paperclips

Thick chalk in various colors

Fixative or hair spray

Instructions

1. Invite the children to choose three or four leaves for their rubbing.

2. Have the children arrange the leaves on a sheet of paper or any surface that is identical in sizeto the paper they will color. Once the children are satisfied with their arrangement, have themplace the white paper over the leaves.

3. Attach the top and bottom sheets of paper with clips so the paper will not shift while the childrenare coloring. Have the children rub the entire paper with chalk, creating an outline of eachleaf.

4. When the rubbing is complete, apply the spray to fix the chalk to the paper.More to doField trip: Go for a walk and collect the leaves for the rubbings.
