Junk mail from home

Construction paper

Glue

Scissors

Instructions

1. Ask the children ahead of time to bring in junk mail from home.

2. Lay the junk mail, unopened, out on the table.

3. Give each child a piece of construction paper, some glue, and a pair of scissors.

4. Let the children open the envelopes and choose which papers they would like to save for theircollage.

5. Have the children cut the paper that they have saved into interesting shapes and glue them tothe construction paper to make their collages. Encourage them to use lots of colorful piecesand to overlap them on the paper.More to doLanguage: Set up a letter-writing table. Put out stationery, pens, pencils, a typewriter, envelopes,holiday seals that resemble stamps, old greeting cards, stickers, and a mailbox. Encourage the childrento think about whom they would like to write to. Encourage them to use their own (developmentallyappropriate) writing.
