empty wrapping paper rolls

scissors (adult use only)

thick string

images of insects where all legs are visible

Instructions

Create a header card for the pocket chart that says, "What is your favorite
insect?" Put pictures of various insects with their names printed underneath
across the top of the pocket chart.
What to Do
1. At circle or group time, place the
header card in the top row of a pocket
chart.
2. Ask each child to pick her favorite
insect and place her name card under
the insect of her choice on the pocket
chart.
3. Encourage the children to gather in
groups based on which insect they
choose. Challenge them to count how
many people they have in their groups.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* You can find cute insect pictures on the Internet. Instead of using name cards
and a pocket chart, you can make a chart on chart paper and write the
children's names under their favorite insect.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* How well do the children participate in the activity?
* Do the children listen attentively with sustained interest?
