Materials
- Old magazines
- Scissors
- Typewriter, optional
- White paper
- Markers
- Glue
- Construction paper or cardboard
- Hole punch and yarn or stapler
What to do
1. Cut out pictures from old magazines, such as children playing, animals, and outdoor scenes.
2. Ask each child to choose a magazine picture. Then, ask him to dictate a short story about the picture he has chosen.
3. After you write or type the child's story, read it back to him to make sure it is accurate.
4. Encourage the children to draw a picture of their short story using paper and markers.
5. Fold a piece of construction paper or cardboard in half to make a book cover. Help the children glue their pictures on the front of their book covers.
6. Ask the children to place their story inside the book cover. Staple it together, or punch holes along the side and tie it together with yarn.

Instructions
1. Hold up six fingers. Encourage the children to do the following fingerplay with
you. Fold down one finger at a time with each verse.
Six Little Snowflakes
Six little snowflakes falling in a row,
One floated down and said, "Oh oh."
Five little snowflakes falling from the sky,
One blew away and said, "Oh my."
Four little snowflakes all colored white,
One melted fast oh, what a sight!
Three little snowflakes floating through the air
One blew that-a-way and left two that's a pair!
Two little snowflakes softly falling down,
One landed on a snowman that was standing on the ground.
One little snowflake, the last of a great snowfall
But don't worry, he'll soon land with others,
And make a great snowball!
More to do
Use six pre-cut flannel board snowflakes. During each verse of the poem, take
away one snowflake. Ask six children to stand up and pretend to be snowflakes.
One child sits down as each snowflake disappears.
