Instructions

1. Instead of just telling the children to clean up, create a fun story for them to
act out as they clean.
2. For example, tell a story about a farmer who had workhorses that were very
good helpers around the farm. The children pretend to be the horses. Some
of them could get on their hands and knees, and depending on the items
being put away, the "farmer" (you or another child) could put things on their
backs for them to carry to different parts of the "farm."
3. Sing "Old MacDonald" as the children clean up.
4. Another example is to make up a story about a store with storekeepers who
are sitting in different areas of the room, ready to receive different toys. The
other children could use chairs as "trucks" by laying them on the floor,
putting items on them, and "driving" them to the store. When they are
finished, they can "drive" the trucks back to the "garage" (table).
More to do More Transitions: Use this idea for other transitions. For example, tell a story
about a restaurant when transitioning to snack or lunch.
