Instructions

What to do
1. Cut white paper into 6" (15 cm) squares.
2. Help the children fold their paper in half, then in half again.
3. Cut several free-form shapes on the folded edge of the paper. Encourage older children to cut
their own.
4. Have the children unfold their paper and see the snowflake design, then invite them to punch
different shapes, adding to the design.
5. When the children are finished, help them glue the tissue paper on back of their snowflake.
6. Glue a piece of yarn at the top of the tissue paper, then let the glue dry.
7. Hang the snowflake in front of a sunny window.
More to do
Circle time: Build a snowman on the flannel board and dress him. Use the snowman's circle
shapes to ask the children about small, medium, and large.
Language: Have the children dictate a sentence about playing in the snow and record their
words on the top half of a sheet of notebook paper; fold the paper and cut a snowflake design on
the lower half. Assemble the papers into a book and make a decorative cover.
Sand and water table: Bring snow in from outdoors.
