Instructions

1. Talk with the children about how they got to class that day. Did they ride on roads? Explain that construction workers build roads to help people get from place to place.
2. Ask the children if they have ever seen construction workers building or improving a road. Ask them what the construction site looked like.
3. Show the children the various materials, and invite them to work together to use the blocks to build a road from one part of the classroom to another. Encourage the children to use the rulers and tape measures to determine the length of the road they will build.
4. After the children finish building one road, consider challenging them to build an additional road that crosses the first road.

Can the children explain the importance of roads, and how they serve a community?
Are the children able to work together to construct roads in the classroom?
