Instructions

1. Choose two animals to use at a time.
2. Put out one animal, such as a dog, and say, "This is a dog."
3. Put a different animal next to it, such as a cat, and say, "This is a cat."
4. Place another dog next to the cat, and another cat next to the second
dog, making an ab/ab pattern.
5. Ask, "What comes next?"
6. If the child does not know which animal comes next in the pattern, help
him figure it out.
7. Repeat the activity using the same or different animals.
