Instructions
- Before going outside on a "hearing walk," explain to the children that they will be listening for sounds.
- On the walk, ask the children to describe what they hear. Write down their observations.
- After returning from the walk, ask the children to recall the sounds they heard. Compare their recollections with the list from the walk. This activity will help the children learn to listen and recall what was heard.
- Sing a "call-and-response" song where you sing a phrase and the children repeat what you sing. Ella Jenkins' song, "Did You Feed My Cow?" from the album You Sing a Song and I'll Sing a Song, is an example of this type of song.
