Instructions

1. Pick a date for "Favorite Color Day" and send home a note to parents asking
that their children wear their favorite color that day.
2. On the designated day, cut out large hearts from white construction paper
and give one to each child. Cut a variety of colors of construction or tissue
paper into 1" squares.
3. Show the children how to make collages using glue and paper squares in their
favorite color.
4. Ask each child why she chose her color and write her response on a 3" by 5"
card. Glue the card to the back of the heart shaped paper.
5. During circle time, write all the colors on the left side of a piece of chart
paper. Next to each color, make a mark for each child who is wearing that
color.
6. Total up marks to see how many children like each color. Compare which
color is liked the most and which color is liked the least.
More to do
Say the following rhyme as the children act out the motions.
If your favorite color is red,
Put both hands on your head.
If your favorite color is blue,
Put your fingertips on your shoes.
If your favorite color is yellow,
Give a smile like a happy fellow.
If your favorite color is green,
Wave your hands so they can be seen.
If your favorite color is white,
Clap your hands with all your might.
If your favorite color is black,
Hide your hands behind your back.
If your favorite color is pink,
Nod your head and give a wink.
If your favorite color is brown,
Stand up and turn yourself around.
If your favorite color is purple,
Spin your hands in a circle.
(Add color words and rhymes as necessary.)
