Instructions
1. Set up play furniture to look like a beauty shop. Use the refrigerator as a
cabinet to hold beauty supplies. Place a chair in front of the sink to make a
hair washing area. Tape construction paper over the top of the stove to hide
the burners and tape a small mirror on the back of it. Place a small chair in
front of the stove. This is where the "customer" will sit.
2. Place a few other chairs in the area to make a waiting area for customers. Put
some books on a small table next to the chairs.
3. Cut out large pictures depicting a variety of hairstyles from magazines. Tape
the pictures on a wall in the area.
4. The children can take turns being hairstylists or customers.
More to do
Art: Encourage the children to draw pictures of their own heads on paper or
paper plates. They can use different kinds of yarn to make hair.
More Art: Show the children how to paint pictures using old combs and brushes
to create different textures and lines on the paper.
Books: Read the children stories about different occupations.
