Materials

tagboardmarkerpicture of each child in the classcolored card stock, cut into 3" squarespocket chart

Instructions

1. Turn a piece of 7" x 11" tagboard horizontally and write the title "How Many Boys? How Many Girls?" Print "girls" on the left and "boys" on the right, forming two columns.

2. Glue each child's picture on a 3" x 3" square of colored card stock.

3. Laminate the header card and the children's pictures.

4. Place the title card in the top row of a pocket chart.

5. Discuss the meaning of more, less, and equal. Ask the children, "Are there more girls or boys in our class?"6. Invite the children to place their photos under the appropriate column to chart the results.

7. Compare the number of girls and the number of boys. Because the pictures are all the same size, the resulting chart is an excellent reference for visual comparison.
