Instructions

1. Have the children sit quietly in a circle. Join the children and place a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter on a piece of black felt.

2. Point to each coin and ask the children if they know the name of each. Talk about the value of each coin. For example, a penny is one cent, a nickel is five cents, and so on.

3. Place a penny into a child's hand for her to explore and pass on. Repeat with the other coins.

4. Give each child a piece of white paper and a crayon. Fold the paper twice, so that there are four sections.

5. Ask the children to place a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter under each section of the paper and rub the crayon over each coin.

6. Place the coins in a cloth bag. The children take turns reaching into the cloth bag, pulling out one coin, and matching the coins with the coin rubbing on their paper.
