Materials

Fossils or pictures of fossils

Clay or other modeling compound

Seashells, preferably scallop shells with a ribbed design

Instructions

What to do
1. If possible, show the children samples (or pictures) of fossils, and discuss what fossils are.
2. Give each child a lump of clay and a seashell.
3. Invite the children to press the shell into the clay and carefully remove it, leaving an impression.
4. If using Sculpey, follow the directions for baking.
5. Otherwise, let the clay air dry.
