Instructions

1. Talk with the children about their neighbors. Ask the children if they
have ever seen family members help or receive help from a neighbor
on a project, like raking the yard, shoveling snow, or some construction
project.
2. Tell the children that this kind of neighborly friendliness is an important
part of what makes a community work.
3. Teach the children following song:
Neighbor, Neighbor by Susan Oldham Hill
(Tune: "Daisy, Daisy")
Neighbor, neighbor,
Give me your answer, do.
What's the tool I use when I'm helping you?
I come to your house to help you;
My special tools come with me.
So here's a game: Now, can you name
The special tool that I use.
4. Show the children the pictures or samples of the different tools and ask
them to identify each and talk about how people would use the tools
to help their neighbors.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Do the children understand the importance of being good neighbors?
l Can the children identify the various tools?
l Are the children able to recite the song?
