Instructions

What to do
1. Show the children examples of landscape art.
2. Have the children rip or cut construction paper scraps into shapes that represent land and
water formations such as a river cutting through a mountain or a stand of trees on a hilltop.
3. When they are ready, ask the children to glue their landscape onto blue paper.
4. Pour liquid starch into a paint container.
5. Invite the children to lay waxed paper on top of their landscape and apply liquid starch over it.
6. When dry, the overlay will give the appearance that the landscape is shrouded in fog.
7. To add dimension, glue more land formations on top of the waxed paper, creating a foreground.
More to do
More art: Invite the children to sit by the window on a foggy day and make a picture of what
they see, using various media.
Movement: Read the poem "Fog" by Carl Sandburg and creep around the room like fog.
