Five Busy Farmers
Five busy farmers (yawn)
Woke up with the sun, (stretch)
For it was early morning (pretend to get dressed)
And chores must be done. (put hat on)
The first busy farmer (hold up one finger)
Went to milk the cow. (make milking motions with both hands)
The second busy farmer (hold up two fingers)
Thought he’d better plow. (rotate hands as if on a steering wheel)
The third busy farmer (hold up three fingers)
Fed the hungry hens. (pretend to scatter grain)
The fourth busy farmer (hold up four fingers)
Mended broken pens. (pretend to use a hammer)
The fifth busy farmer (hold up five fingers)
Took his vegetables to town. (pretend to dig up vegetables)
Baskets filled with cabbages (pretend to cut and box cabbages)
And sweet potatoes, brown. (pretend to dig and shake dirt off)
When the work was finished (mop brows and take hats off)
And the western sky was red, (look into distance with hand above eyes)
Five busy farmers (hold up five fingers)
Tumbled into bed. (fold hands beneath cheek and close eyes)
