Instructions
1. Ask the children which season they like the best.
Ask the children to talk about their choices.
2. Show the children a seasonal object (such as a
mitten or a sand pail) and ask them what the object
is and which season they associate the object with.
3. Set the items in the properly labeled box.
4. Explain to the children that making these groups is called
sorting.
5. After the children sort all the objects into the correct boxes,
show the children the four different cardboard images.
6. Challenge the children to indicate which
season each image represents. Explain that
these images are symbols, and talk with
the children about what symbols are. Ask
the children if they have seen other symbols
before. Give examples, such as elevator and
bathroom signs.
