Instructions

1. Ahead of time, position the 9" x 12" paper vertically and cut the lower ends to make a point like the tip of an arrow pointing down. Make one for each child.

2. Ask each child to trace and cut out five leaves from the 4" paper squares. (Younger children will need a lot of help with this step. You may need to provide precut leaves.)3. Show them the number cards and help them write the numeral 1 on one leaf, numeral 2 on the second leaf, and so on.

4. Ask the children to choose banner papers in green or brown. Show them how to put the leaf marked 1 near the top of the banner, and then put the leaf marked 2 slightly below the first one.

5. The children place the rest of the leaves in order on the banner, each one below the previous one as though they were falling from the trees.

6. Encourage them to spread the leaves out rather than placing them in a straight vertical line from top to bottom. When they are in place, ask the children to glue them on. Allow to dry.

7. Help them punch two holes near the top of the banner. Show them how to thread the yarn through and tie for hanging the banner.

8. Punch an additional hole near the pointed end and tie a tassel on, if desired.
