Materials

confectioner's sugar and four cans of frosting, or homemade frosting

food coloring

six cloth or plastic pastry bags

rubber bands

un-iced cupcakes or large cookies, one per child

plastic knives

camera

Instructions

1. Read books about construction to the children. Talk to the children about
construction and show them children's tools such as a hammer, saw, and
so on.
2. Cut out the middle of each Styrofoam ball so that it fits on a child's head.
Give one to each child.
3. The children use paint and paintbrushes to paint their hats yellow. Help them
write their names on oak tag and attach the tag to the front of their "hard
hats."
4. Encourage the children to wear their hard hats as they make towers out of
Legos(R) or blocks.
