Instructions

1. Use felt shapes of various colors to construct a clown face for flannel board use.

2. Cut out the following shapes from felt:* a 6" circle from cream-colored felt for the face* two purple triangles for the eyes* a larger blue triangle for the hat* a yellow circle to go on top of the hat for a tassel* two medium-sized orange triangles for the hair on each side of the face* a red circle for the nose* two smaller pink circles for cheeks* a green crescent moon shape for the mouth3. Make a smaller (approximately half the size) version of the clown as a model. Glue this one together as a single unit to display on the flannel board for the child to duplicate. Discuss each shape with the children.

4. The child first puts the example on the flannel board. She then uses the larger pieces to construct a clown face to match the example. After admiring her clown, she removes the felt pieces and continues using them to make the clown face any way she desires.
