Instructions

1. Ask the children to form a circle and hold their hands in front of them. Ask
them to put their palms out and move them around.
2. Talk about hands as they examine them. Ask them questions, such as:
What do your hands look like?
How many fingers? How many thumbs?
Which is your longest finger?
What do you call the little finger?
Look at your fingernails. What are they good for?
What can we do with our hands?
What couldn't we do if we didn't have hands?
3. Make a circle and ask everyone to hold hands.
4. Ask the children to compare their hands with a partner. Encourage them to
compare their hands at home with their parents and siblings.
5. Ask the children to trace their partner's hand onto a piece of paper. Cut them
out and paste them around the room.
6. Show the children pictures of people and animals, pointing out their hands
(and paws). Talk about what animals do with their paws. Compare animal
paws with human hands.
