Instructions

1. Talk about ways to get along with others and the use of good manners. Make a list of rules and manners for the classroom.2. Introduce the dragon puppet. Have him talk to the children and read the list of rules. Explain to the children that the dragon wags his tail when he sees good manners in the classroom, and he opens his mouth and growls when he sees unkindness.3. Let the children make their own dragon puppets to take home to remind their families to remember their manners.4. Give each child a paper lunch bag. Ask them to make "scales" all over the bag with the markers.5. Cut out arms and legs from tissue paper or construction paper for the children to glue on the bag.6. Tell the children that the folded flap of the bag is the head. Help them cut out and glue on ears and horns.7. Demonstrate how to glue a tongue inside the flap. Glue on button or wiggle eyes.8. On the back of the bag, the children can glue gathered tissue paper wings.9. To make a tail to wag, the children stuff a knee-high stocking with torn crumpled newspaper, and then use a marker to make scales on the tail. Help them staple the bottom edge of the "tail" to the bag.10. Show the children how to put their hand inside the bag to open and close the flap to make the dragon growl or talk. They can wiggle their arm to make the tail wag.
