Materials

shape and number cardsslidesandbox or tub of sand

Instructions

1. Use this fun movement activity to get the children excited about shapes and numbers.

2. Have the children line up behind the steps to the slide.

3. Stand at the front of the slide with the shape and number cards in hand.

4. Invite the children to climb the ladder and slide down one at a time.

5. As each child reaches the bottom of the slide, he names the shape or number card as you display it.

6. As the child correctly identifies the shape, he gives you a high five and then moves to the sandbox to form that number or shape in the sand.

7. Instruct the child to make his shape or number quickly and then smooth out the sand so the next child can form his shape or number.

8. Repeat this activity several times so the children have numerous opportunities to climb and draw.More to do Sand Table: Provide plastic numeral and shape molds along with a tub of wet sand so children can form numerals with the molds.
