Materials
seashells
glue
pens, markers, and paint
cardstock paper
Instructions
1. To prepare, cut poster board into 9" x 4" rectangles.
2. Use generous amounts of tacky glue to attach a pile of seeds to one half of
each rectangle.
3. At the other end of each rectangle, use rubber cement to attach a picture of
the plant or flower (cut from the seed packet) that grows from the seeds you
glued.
4. When the cards are dry, cut through the center to make two-piece puzzles.
Use a different cut pattern for each puzzle.
5. Encourage the children to match the pictures with the seeds. The puzzles are
self-correcting because only correct matches should fit together.
More to do Science: Place seeds in margarine containers and provide magnifying glasses
for children to examine them closely.
More Science:With the children, find out where seeds come from. Cut open
fruit to find the seeds, shell peas from their pods, examine a sunflower, and pop
open a milkweed pod.
